The 2nd national conference on Ethics and Professional Culture (EPC2011) will be held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 15-16 April 2011. This highly interactive, cross-disciplinary conference will bring together researchers from a broad area of academic disciplines (philosophy, biology, medicine, journalism, psychology, sociology, social work, law, management etc.) and practitioners to discuss the growing problems posed by the conflict of various professional perspectives and modes of understanding of the professional practices in today's Romania and in the world.
It happened more than once to each of us that our professional activity came to be scrutinized by other professionals or by simple citizens. Also, most probably we have been many times in the position to take a critical look at what other professionals are doing. Ethicists by definition are meddling in other people's work, but also journalists, accountants, counselors, judges, policemen and others. These situations are rarely conceptualized. This conference aims at bringing forth typical cases of interaction and communications and to analyze them focusing especially on the ethical tools and institutions involved, as well as on the ways of bridging different or even contradictory professional perspectives. The conference will provide also excellent opportunities for participants to network with academic and practitioners form various fields.
The conference format will consist of submitted (reviewed) presentations, invited keynotes, and two-hours interactive discussion sessions.
Case studies, panel discussions and multi- and interdisciplinary approaches are highly encouraged.
Keynote speakers: | Prof. Monique Castillo (philosopher, Paris-Est University) |
Prof. Vasile Astărăstoae (medical doctor, bioethicist, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iaşi) | |
