Founded in 2004, the Centre for Ancient and Medieval Philosophy represents a research unit focused on the translation, commentary, editing and exegesis of Ancient and Medieval philosophical works that are missing in Romanian culture and whose presence could shape the local space of reception for said philosophy, as well as the Romanian philosophical terminology. The result of 16 years of activity (14 research grants with national funding, over 10 international and national colloquia, over 50 editions of works of Greek and Latin authors, 5 collections supervised at the most important publishers in Romania, participations in international colloquia and the publishing of the prestigious international journal for Ancient and Medieval philosophy “Chôra. Revue d’études anciennes et médiévales”, in collaboration with the Léon Robin Centre, Paris IV, Sorbonne) outline the Centre’s main domains of activity.

The Centre for Ancient and Medieval Philosophy is accredited at Babeş-Bolyai University as complex/transversal type research unit (position 35 from The list of research units accredited at BBU, update 2021) and it is recognized as an excellence research unit (position 10 from The list of excellence research units approved by the BBU Scientific Council, actualizare 2021)
