Obiectivele proiectului
- To examine the ‘archaeology’ of modern and
contemporary notions of individual identity, diversity, and responsibility by
reconstructing the scientific, philosophical and theological debates about
twins in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages;
- To broaden the pool of textual sources regarding the historical implication of twinning by selecting and critically editing hitherto neglected and/or unpublished primary sources;
- To test the pervasive dimension of gender in past understandings of twins.
The achievement of the project’s objectives relies on the adoption of an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses and ties together a set of academic disciplines actually taught in medieval universities (Philosophy, Medicine, Theology).
