CALL FOR PAPERS
“Human Being as a Cross-Point”
The EGSAMP (European Graduate School for Ancient and Medieval Philosophy) international summer school 2020 is organized by the project “Human Being As a Cross-Point: the Beginnings of the Modern Concept of Man in the Middle Ages“ (PN-III-P1-1.1-TE-2016-2351), the Centre for Anciant and medieval Philosophy at the Faculty of History and Philosophy, Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca andthe Thomas-Institut of the University of Cologne. The summer school is aimed at advanced MA students, PhD students and postdoc fellows. Participants will have the opportunity to present their ongoing research, exchange ideas and get helpful feedback regarding their projects.
“Human Being as a Cross-Point” focuses on topics regarding human being and human actions in the longue durée of the Middle Ages, i.e. from the Ancient sources to its long and dynamic transformations in the Renaissance and the Early Modern times. The human being as a subject of study is a cross-point of multiple perspectives and topics. In order to define and then also describe what a human being is, we need to take into account various philosophical approaches; the study of homoinvolves theological aspects, metaphysical aspects, aspects of ethics, and of natural philosophy. We would like to gather these various perspectives and discuss on their interaction.
The organizers are covering accommodation and dinner. Some participation stipends for travel and costs of stay will be assigned to PhD students who are already working on a relevant topic. Short trip to Alba Iulia or other is included in the program.
