At the limits of the romanian orthodoxy. Oradea Vicarage (1848-1918)
The absence of a work in the field, which can present the context of the appearance, the costitutional avatars and the interconfessional relations of the Orthodox Vicarage from Oradea, was the beginning of this project. If the other central institutions, such as Mitropoly, Archepiscopacy, Eparchy, had the atention of the researchers, the institution of the Vicarage was Less or at all spoken about in the specific literature of the History of Church.
The context of appearance of this institution is related to the political, religious and interconfessional context of the era. Situated to the boundary of the Romanian Orthodoxy, the ortodox Vicarage of Oradea was the follower, from the ecleziastic-administrative point of view, of the old eparchy from the neighbourhood, which remained without a bischop from 1712 ar rhe request of the Court from Viena, which was offering, in this way, the proper setting for the politics of unification with the Church of Rome.
In this new situation, the concern for the orthodox from Bihor passed to eparchies from Arad, whose administration was more or less favourable. The fact that the Eparchy from Arad was the most spreaded in the metropolitan system of Karlowitz determined the creation of a Vicarage, of a consistory in Oradea in 1793.By creating the Vicarage from Oradea, the jurisdictional power was going back to this, in Arad remaining only the spiritual functions fixed on canons in the power of the Bishop.
The moment 1848 is important for the History of the Vicarage from Oradea, because that year was cofirmed the existence and the eclesiastic autonomy to the Sinod from Chisineu-Cris.The eclesiastic constitution adopted then proved the existence of a Vicarage in Oradea, formed by a vicar, six members, from which there were two clericals, then a notary and an accountant lawyer.
During the research it will be seen the institutional relation between the the eclesiastical institutions between the vicarage from Oradea and the eparchal sinod from Arad, the way how the relation between the two istitutions functioned, the degree and the measure in which the decisions of one of them influenced the existence and the functioning of the other between 1848-1918. It will also be searched the relation which it had with the Mitropoly from Karlowitz, and as a starting point for this analysis we have the monography of Vasa Lupulovici, „ The eclesiastic life of Serbians from Banat between 1865-1918, Cluj- Napoca, 2009, 522p., completed by the research of the Serbians archives, such as Arhiv Srpske Akademije Nauke i Umetnosti Patrijarsijski Mitropoljiki, Fond „ A”, Fond”B”, Sremki Karlovci.
To assure a complete picture of the interconfessional relations, we also talk about the necessity of the research of cultural, eclesiastic and social relations between tha orthodox Vicarage and the Greek – Catholic Eparchy, the Roman- Catholic Eparchy from Oradea. The interferrences between the three confessions in the parsonage of Bihor were treated only tangentially (Silviu Sana, Secvente de istorie ecleziastica, Oradea, 2009, 240 p).
The majority of the printed works wanted to see a confession or other in evolution, without exploiting too much the side of interconfessionality. This research watches the genesis and the way of intern functioning of the Vicarage from Oradea, its relations with central and local orthodox eclesiastical relations, such as the relations with the Eparchy from Arad, the Mitropoly from Karlowitz, the Grek – Catholic Eparchy and the Roman- Catholic Eparchy from Oradea, working for the eclesiastic administration.
The project wants to bring a signifiant contribution to the knowledge of the institution of the Vicarage in the Romanian Orthodox Church from Transilvania, especially of that from Oradea, between 1848- 1918.The lack of a relevant research regarding the history of evolution of the institution of the Orthodox Vicarage from Oradea, requires suach a report.
